Using a colour film, made 70 years ago, titled - The Willow Story - the talk will share and introduce you to some hidden stories of the 400 acre moor which is shared by the parishes in and around Kingsbury Episcopi, Curry Rivel and Daryton. If it was a mountain you’d notice it. Its history is interconnected with the other Moors of this part of Somerset which help to give the area a local and regional distinctiveness.

The film-maker, Mona Chedzoy, was born in 1914, the eldest of 8 children. She went to Bower Hinton School in Martock, and Bower Hinton was the place where the Chedzoy family had their business. The family’s mother died young in her 30’s, leaving Mona, as the eldest, to bring up the younger children. She had to do this by leaving school at the age of 13 years. In later life, and after WW2, Mona returned from a twinning exchange between Chard & Helmstadt in Germany, bringing back with her, a cine-camera. She made this film over a period of two years in the mid 1950’s. It is now in in climate controlled conditions in the South West Heritage Trust.
