We arrange a programme of Speakers through the year. One of our highlights in 2024 was at our June meeting.

The Somerton U3A Aviation Group was delighted to welcome Mario Carretta, the Chief Pilot of the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, on Monday 10th June.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance provides vital life-saving, pre-hospital critical care, to the community and patients in need, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They are our local air ambulance charity, and are a vital part of the community. Their service is 95% funded by charitable donations, and last year they were tasked to 2,424 incidents; with each mission costing approximately £3,500.

Although the presentation focused on the aviation aspects of their work, members took the opportunity to support them and come and hear about their equipment and skills including the incredible flying needed to reach patients, often in remote locations, by the roadside, in a park or on a beach.
